Quetumbar

Singer, Songwriter, Producer

Toronto-born musician Quetumbar has journeyed through a kaleidoscope of musical genres, each chapter adding a unique layer to his unique sound. His story began at 14, playing guitar in metal bands and touring local circuits, where he honed early performance chops. Around the same time, a budding curiosity for MIDI music composition took root, captivating his close friends and even earning admiration from listeners as far away as Japan.

As his musical palette expanded, so did his instrumental skill. Self-taught in piano and drums, and with a newfound passion for singing, Quetumbar broadened his horizons beyond the confines of rock. His late teens and early twenties saw him touring across the U.S. and Canada with various rock bands, yet he yearned for a more fulfilling creative outlet.

The transition to music production became a turning point. Wanting to break away from the familiar sounds of his past, he dived into electronic music production, exploring new realms inspired by underground artists and genres. The jazzy hip-hop beats of Nujabes, Uyama Hiroto, and DJ Okawari, the ethereal soundscapes of Burial, and the innovative rhythms of Bonobo, Machinedrum, Disclosure, and Four Tet became his new muses.

In a surprise twist, a joke release on Bandcamp under a pseudonym skyrocketed to the number one spot in Canada and number two in the U.S., marking a pivotal moment in his career. Later that year, one of his serious productions found radio play time across Canada on CBC2. Having lived all over the U.S. and Canada, including stints in California, North Carolina, Indiana, and Ontario, his music reflects the diverse cultural influences and experiences he's amassed along the way.

Currently, Quetumbar focuses on creating music that's raw and heartfelt, driven by an ethos that true artistry comes from a place of genuine emotion and authenticity. Balancing a tech day job with his musical ambitions, he navigates the delicate dance between business acumen and artistic integrity.

Since joining the Azuki community, he's showcased his hip-hop-inspired samples on Twitter/X. While the exact direction of his first Muzuki release remains fluid, Quetumbar is excited to explore collaborative opportunities, delve into the creative process, and share audio engineering techniques with fellow enthusiasts.

He is also known for the creation of the Midnight Breeze fangame - "Super Midnight Breeze 95".
